Jac Davies spun himself around in his swiveling desk chair, whistling Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries as it played loudly on the stereo next to him. He could do this because his parents had left the house to take his sister to see some play - he didn't care what it was called. He only cared about the fact he was on his own. He liked that. He liked it when his parents were out. He stopped swiveling and flipped open his laptop, which was networking with his desktop - he was transferring a large number of important hack-files to the smaller computer so he could short the school computer network the next day. He felt that would entertain. A small blip from the large computer announced that he had mail. He clicked on the popup and was taken to his inbox - and then the screen started glowing as it deposited a small rectangular device was on his desk. He cocked his head and picked it up. No point panicking he thought to himself. Just investigate the situation. The device had a number of deep purple buttons on the black face and a white screen, currently displaying nothing. There was a belt clip on the bottom and a small port on the top, but it didn't match any data interface he'd ever seen. And he'd seen a lot. On a whim, he prodded one of the buttons - and a bright white light emerged from his screen, enveloped him and his laptop, and then pulled them in. It was getting to be a weird evening.
