Lyla looked out her back door. The night was clear, warm, and inviting. She stepped outside and sat on the porch step. As she drifted off into another dreamland, the bushes at the back began to move. It caught Lyla's attention, but she quickly dismissed it as the wind. She thought some more about the adventures she used to dream up, but the bushes began rustling even more.
She froze. There was definitely something there. All kinds of possibilities ran through her mind. Deciding the danger was too great, she leapt to her feet and ran inside. She looked back. For a split second, she thought she saw something in the bushes glowing.
She sat down on the couch and opened her laptop. She tried to turn it on, but no matter what she did the screen stayed blank. Suddenly a surge of power coursed through it and a window opened up. There was some text at the bottom of the screen.
"I'm waiting?" Lyla read. She paused, unsure of what was going on. She knew a little bit about computers, enough to know that what was happening was rather unlikely. Maybe a hacker or a virus?
"Look behind you!!" The screen told her. Anxious, Lyla whipped her head around. Outside the window behind her, the bush that had been moving was glowing very brightly. Lyla decided she didn't want to find out what was going on.
"Please go, I promise it won't hurt you..." The screen displayed. Lyla didn't move. "You won't regret it!" The screen kept pleading.
She thought for a moment. "Well... I guess if I'm gonna be murdered they'll be coming inside regardless..." She reasoned. Nervous, she opened the back door and approached the light. She traced it to the ground below the bush, where a strange device, half-buried, was shining a light from its screen. She picked it up and studied it in her hand for a moment. Was it an old toy she dropped years ago? It was kind of dirty from being in the ground but it still looked pretty new...
She brought it inside and sat down by her laptop. "Thank you!" Displayed the screen. "Now this next part might get a little weird..."
Lyla began to feel strange. Another light crawled from the monitor and slowly pulled her in...
